Baltimore—Daryl Osbahr, MD, MedStar Sports Medicine orthopaedic surgeon and director of Sports Medicine Research at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, has been selected to be the venue physician for the World Baseball Classic, an international baseball tournament taking place from Tuesday, Feb. 26 to Wednesday, Mar. 6 in Taichung, Taiwan.
Selected by Major League Baseball (MLB), the Classic and the MLB Medical Director, Dr. Osbahr will provide medical care for all athletes participating in the event. Dr. Osbahr also will provide medical care during workouts and exhibition games leading up to the tournament.
The Classic is sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and created by MLB, the MLB Players Association (MLBPA), and other professional baseball leagues and their players associations worldwide.
The tournament is the first of its kind to have national baseball teams feature professional players from the major leagues around the world, including MLB. As the main tournament sanctioned by the IBAF, the Classic provides a format for the best baseball players in the world to compete against one another to be named “World Champions.”
