Baltimore—The MedStar Health Cancer Network, in partnership with WJZ-TV (Channel 13), will host a live “Ask the Expert” event Thursday, Feb. 21, from noon to 6:30 p.m. The event, focused on cancer care, is designed to educate viewers about topics ranging from screenings and diagnoses, to treatment and survivorship. Providing a platform for the audience to call in, our experts are available to speak live with viewers to answer cancer-related questions and offer clinical advice.
Comprised of four MedStar hospitals, including MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, MedStar Harbor Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, the Cancer Network is a true collaboration in quality cancer care with a focus on service and easy access for patients and their families throughout the greater Baltimore region.
During the event, experts from a variety of specialties will staff a 16-person phone bank. Viewers can reach our experts by calling 410-466-1313 between noon and 6:30 p.m.
Short live interviews with our specialists will be featured during the noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts to educate viewers about the scope and services offered by the Cancer Network, and to encourage viewers to call in. Cancer Network physicians and topics featured live at the event include:
William Krimsky, MD, interventional pulmonologist, MedStar Harbor, will discuss how to treat and prevent lung cancer; during the noon newscast.
Atsuko Okabe, MD, oncologist, MedStar Franklin Square, will highlight advancements in breast cancer treatment during the 4 p.m. newscast.
Vinay Gupta, MD, surgical oncologist, MedStar Union Memorial, will address risk factors, symptoms and treatment of pancreatic cancer during the 5 p.m. newscast.
Michael Blume, MD, gastroenterologist, MedStar Good Samaritan, will discuss the importance of colonoscopies to help detect colon cancer, as well as dispel myths about preparation and pain of the procedure; during the 6 p.m. newscast.
Continual messaging through pre-recorded commercials running throughout the day, WJZ-TV website coverage and “crawls” (type across the bottom of the television screen during programming), will encourage viewers to take action and call in to speak with one of our experts.
