News From MedStar Union Memorial Hospital
US News & World Report Identifies Best Hospitals in Sixteen Specialties
Baltimore (June, 2012) – For the sixth consecutive year, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital ranks among the nation’s top 50 “Best Hospitals” by US News & World Report.
The hospital was named on the coveted annual list by ranking in cardiology and heart surgery, and orthopedics. MedStar Union Memorial also received high-performing scores in eight specialty areas: Diabetes and Endocrinology, Ear Nose and Throat, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Pulmonology and Urology.
This year's “Best Hospitals,” the 23rd annual edition, showcases more than 720 of the nation's roughly 5,000 hospitals. U.S. News created the “Best Hospitals” ranking system to identify hospitals exceptionally skilled in handling the most difficult cases, including cardiac and orthopedic cases.
"Pursuing excellence in patient care is what we do every day at MedStar Union Memorial,” said hospital president, Bradley S. Chambers, “and I am as proud as I’ve ever been of all of our associates, who make it their personal goal to create the best possible patient experience.”
Of the 5,000 hospitals surveyed, MedStar Union Memorial is one of only 148 hospitals to be nationally ranked in one or more specialties.
Factors used by U.S. News for the rankings included technology, hospital’s reputation among physicians, patient satisfaction and quality measures such as survival rates and nurse to patient ratio.
