Baltimore, MD — (March 14, 2011) — For the fifth consecutive year, Union Memorial Hospital was awarded the Delmarva Foundation’s 2011 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement, becoming the only hospital in Maryland to achieve such a feat in the award’s 11 year history.
The award recognizes individual hospital performance improvement in four national inpatient clinical areas: acute myocardial infarction (AMI), heart failure, surgical care and pneumonia. Hospitals must meet or exceed 17 required measures, such as giving aspirin to patients upon admission for AMI, and sustain the performance for at least three consecutive quarters.
Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, Inc. is the Quality Improvement Organization for Maryland and the excellence award is considered one of the strongest state-level quality award programs.
