| Local Physician Appointed to Commission on Cancer Position |

 BALTIMORE, MD - David Nasrallah, MD, recently received a three-year appointment as Cancer Liaison Physician for the cancer program at Union Memorial Hospital. Cancer Liaison physicians are an integral part of cancer programs accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
Dr. Nasrallah is among a national network of over 1600 volunteer physicians who are responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain and support their facilities' cancer program. Dr. Nasrallah, who as a significant interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with malignant diseases, is a member of the multidisciplinary cancer committee at Union Memorial Hospital, which has a widely recognized commitment to comprehensive quality care.
"They say that knowledge is power, and the information collected in the Commission's National Cancer Data Base is power in our fight against cancer. The NCDB collects information for over 21 million malignant cancers diagnosed and treated in cancer programs like ours at Union Memorial." Dr. Nasrallah said. "I am proud to take this position, to be a liaison in the information sharing and gathering process and am propelled by the opportunity to positively impact cancer patient care at Union Memorial."
Cancer Liaison Physicians are responsible for spearheading CoC initiatives within their cancer program; collaborating with local agencies, such as the American Cancer society, and facilitating quality improvement initiatives utilizing data submitted to the CoC's National Cancer Database. The CoC collects data from its approved cancer programs and provides tools back to these facilities to analyze patters of diagnoses and treatment. |
