Orthotics
Union Memorial was the first sports medicine center to offer orthotic services. Orthotics are devices worn in the shoe to re-align a person's foot and reduce some of the injuries that begin at the foot and travel upward. Because the feet are the body's main shock absorbers, when they are compromised, a number of injuries and conditions can arise. If used properly, orthotics can absorb the shock, reducing the risk of injury.
While certain types of orthotics are available off-the-shelf in athletic and drug stores, at Union Memorial Sports Medicine, specially-trained physical therapists custom-make orthotics to properly fit an individual's feet as well as address his/her individual problem.
Orthotic services are available at Union Memorial Hospital and at Union Memorial Sports Medicine at Bel Air.
