Hand Therapy

Hand Therapy is a specialty that has evolved from both the occupational therapy (OT) and the physical therapy (PT) professions. The blending of OT and PT has created a specialty that provides quality rehabilitation of the hand and arm. Therapists must meet education and experience requirements to become Certified Hand Therapists through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission.

The hand therapy staff at The Curtis National Hand Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive and individualized evaluation and treatment to patients with hand and arm dysfunction resulting from trauma, disease, medical or surgical conditions.

These conditions include, but are not limited to, strains and sprains, burns, repetitive stress disorders, tendon and ligament injuries, fractures, congenital disorders, amputations and arthritis.

To contact Hand Therapy, call 410-554-6680.

The Curtis National Hand Center is also home to the Curtis Work Rehabilitation Services (CWRS), offering assessment, prevention and rehabilitation services for patients with any type of injuries or conditions which may affect their ability to work. Primary services of CWRS include Functional Capacity Evaluation, Work Conditioning, Work Hardening and Ergonomic Consultations. CWRS is the only CARF-accredited program of its kind in Maryland – this quality indicator ensures that we are held to the highest international standards for occupational rehabilitation programs.
