Hand Specialists

All of the hand surgeons at the Curtis National Hand Center are board-certified and most hold certificates of added qualifications in hand surgery. Many of our hand surgeons are also experts in diagnosing and caring for shoulder and elbow problems. Hand specialists are orthopaedic, plastic or general surgeons who have additional training in surgery of the hand.

Dr. W. Hugh Baugher Dr. W. Hugh Baugher
Received medical degree at the University of Virginia Medical School. Trained at Barnes Hospital and the University of Virginia Medical Center. Performed fellowships in orthopaedics / sports medicine and in hand surgery. Specializes in the shoulder, hand, wrist, sports medicine and arthroscopy.

 

Dr. Christopher L. Forthman Dr. Christopher L. Forthman
Dr. Forthman earned his M.D. from the Baylor College of Medicine and then completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard. He joined us after completing his hand surgery fellowship at The Curtis National Hand Center.

 

Dr. James P. Higgins

Dr. James P. Higgins
Dr. Higgins is the Chief of the Curtis National Hand Center. Received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Completed residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Rochester and a hand fellowship at The Curtis National Hand Center. Sub-specializes in hand/arm microsurgery and vascular surgery.

Dr. Peter C. Innis Dr. Peter C. Innis
Bachelor of Science, Cornell University. Received Medical Degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Internship & Residency - Johns Hopkins Orthopaedics. Hand Fellowship at The Curtis National Hand Center.

 

Dr. Ryan Katz Dr. Ryan Katz
Dr. Katz trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and hand surgery at The Curtis National Hand Center, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. His interests include microsurgery, complex soft tissue and bone reconstruction, nerve and vascular disorders, fractures of the upper extremity, nerve compression, and limb salvage. His approach is both comprehensive and patient focused.

Dr. Dawn Laporte Dr. Dawn LaPorte
Received her Medical Degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Performed her residency, as well at the Johns Hopkins Orthopaedic Surgery. Did her fellowship through The Curtis National Hand Center.

Dr. Michael A. McClinton

Dr. Michael A. McClinton
Earned medical degree from Tulane University. Trained at Johns Hopkins and performed fellowships at Hopkins, Baltimore City Hospital's Burn Center, The Curtis National Hand Center and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services. Sub-specializes in microsurgery and vascular surgery of the hand and arm.

Dr. Kenneth Means
Earned his medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. He also fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery and microsurgery at The Curtis National Hand Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital..

Dr. J. Russell Moore

Board certified in orthopaedic surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery. Educated at State University of New York and trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Curtis National Hand Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Michael S. Murphy Dr. Michael S. Murphy
Received medical degree from University of Rochester in New York. Completed training at the New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital. Performed hand fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Sub-specializes in arthroplasty, traumatic conditions and vascular disorders.

 

Dr. Keith A. Segalman Dr. Keith A. Segalman
Earned medical degree at New York University School of Medicine. Trained at the New York University Medical Center/ Bellevue Hospital. Completed fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at The Curtis National Hand Center. Sub-specializes in wrist, elbow, shoulder and Brachial Plexus disorders.

 

Dr. Raymond A. Wittstadt

Dr. Raymond A. Wittstadt
Began career as a nurse, a nurse practitioner, and then a physician's assistant. Earned master's degree in Public Health at Hopkins and medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Orthopaedic residency and hand fellowship conducted at The Curtis National Hand Center.

 

Dr. Bruce Wolock Dr. Bruce Wolock
Earned medical degree at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. Residency: Orthopaedic Surgery, Johns Hopkins University. Fellowships: Hand and Upper Extremity Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA Sports Medicine, The Curtis National Hand Center, Baltimore, MD. Dr. Wolock specializes in fractures of the hand and wrist, shoulder and elbow surgery, peripheral nerve surgery and athletic upper extremity injuries.

Dr. Neal Zimmerman
Dr. Zimmerman specializes in arthritis. He also has an interest in wrist, elbow and special skills related to the application of electronic media to medicine.
