Alan H. Shikana, M.D.

Alan H. Shikani, M.D., FACS


Alan H. Shikani, M.D., Chief of Otolaryngology – head and neck surgery – at Union Memorial Hospital, and Director of the Maryland ENT Voice and Swallowing Center at Union Memorial Hospital, is one of the most accomplished physicians in the field of otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat specialty).

Dr. Shikani is a member of the Trilogical Society, the most prestigious society in otolaryngology. He was elected for his work dealing with head and neck tumors. He earned the coveted Maurice Cottle Award from the American Rhinologic Society in 2002. The award recognizes the most outstanding national basic research in rhinology. Dr. Shikani also has developed a number of FDA-approved devices that are now widely used, including a device that improves recovery after nasal surgery and lessens the need for repeat sinus surgeries and a scope for management of difficult airways.

Dr. Shikani has presented and published extensively in the fields of sinus surgery, head and neck tumors and voice and swallowing disorders. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology and a fellow in both the American College of Surgeons and the American Rhinologic Society. In addition to directing the Maryland Ear, Nose and Throat Center at Union Memorial Hospital, he is an Assistant Professor in otolaryngology — head and neck surgery — at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Han G. Sohn, M.D.


Han G. Sohn, M.D., Associate Director of the Maryland ENT Voice and Swallowing Center at Union Memorial Hospital, trained in otolaryngology — head and neck surgery — at State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate in New York, where he graduated summa cum laude and was honored as Outstanding Resident.

His research interests include snoring and sleep apnea, especially in children. He earned first place for clinical research in Sleep Disordered Breathing in Children by the American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery. He is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the prestigious Trilogical Society.
